Patricia Ljutic’s poetry, essays and fiction have been published in dozens popular and literary publications. Her story, “Offerings”, about a man struggling with depression, loss, isolation and his happy, overbearing neighbor made Glimmer Train’s Top 25 List in the June 2011 Fiction Open and was a finalist in the 2015 William Faulkner–William Wisdom Competition. “Freedom Gate”, won second place in the 11th Annual Writer’s Digest Short Short Story Competition.
Patricia describes her experience raising a son who requires extraordinary attention and consideration in her poems “ADHD,” published by Pulse-Voices from the Heart of Medicine, and “Sitting Still,” which appeared in Cradle Songs: An Anthology of Poems About Motherhood. This theme is further explored in Patricia’s flash fiction piece, “Fire Fight,” which received Honorable mention in WriterAdvice.com and in the story, “Party Plans,” published in A Cup of Comfort for Parents of Children with Special Needs. Other short memoir pieces include “Tu Sei Bella,” published in My Mom Is My Hero, about her grandmother, “Love Check,” a valentine story about her husband, which appeared in A Cup of Comfort for Couples and the humorous piece about her father’s inability to part with a dollar, “Dad’s Five Dollar Pants,” published in Chicken Soup of the Soul: Family Matters.
Patricia’s poems and fiction often combine myth and magic, as in the poems “Great Mother’s Spirit Pot,” published in Sage Woman, and “Restoration,” which appeared in The Beltane Papers.
